In the new barn!

January 2025 – The does were moved into the new barn! I LOVE it and I think they do too!

We’re working by flashlight/lantern until the power is installed.

NOTE: the white stuff on the floor of the barn is calcium chloride for dust control. The rock dust flooring packs hard but is very dusty especially when the wind blows! The calcium chloride will dissolve/melt and will completely stop the dust. It is used for dirt roads for the same reason. It works great!

Processing Day – Mangalitsa Hogs

We finally got our two large Mangalitsa hogs to market this week. They were a combined weight of 1,040 pounds on the hoof and we ended up with 765 pounds of meat. Key Packing Company in Robbiins, NC did a very good job. The Hot sausage and pork chops are delicious but we’ve not tried any of the other cuts yet. We also have to wait a few weeks to pick up our 80 pounds of bacon.
