English Lavender Orpingtons!

English Lavender Orpingtons!

We’ve had Orpington chickens for eight years and really like this breed. They make a very good dual purpose (eggs & meat), have docile personalities, and are beautiful birds.

We purchased newly hatched (@ July 10th) Lavender English Orpington chicks! They were straight-run so we are not sure how many hens/roosters we have just yet.

A broody hen is valuable!

A broody hen is valuable!

Our oldest hen, Belzar, was from the first batch of Buff Orpington chicks we purchased 7 years ago. She is the sweetest hen and likes to sit on my lap. Her adorable personality has saved her from the frying pan so she will live out her days here on the farm.

Every year when she goes broody, we purchase pullet chicks from the local feed store and let her raise them. It saves us a lot of time and Belzar LOVES them.

Leaning Tree – had to go!

Leaning Tree – had to go!
Watching from inside

One of our several HUGE oak trees was leaning towards our house and we finally scheduled the tree crew to take it down. Every time there was a strong storm, we would be worried about it falling.

It has left such an empty space 🙁
